Although it depends on the creditor, the Bankruptcy will operate as an automatic stay to stop creditor enforcement of debts and telephone calls.

Upon the filing of a bankruptcy an automatic stay is issued, by operation of law. This stops wage garnishments, lawsuits, collection actions, foreclosures and even, in many cases, evictions. Creditors are noticed of the bankruptcy filing by the bankruptcy court in the form of written notice. They must cease all collection action.
